Worthing Pier An Experiment With Timelapse Photography And Sound

Worthing Pier in West Sussex. I not only wanted to photograph Worthing Pier I also wanted capture the sounds that make the pier special. © Scott Ramsey Photography

I have always lived near the sea and whenever possible I grab my camera and head down to the beach to clear my head and take some photos. I love exploring the old seaside towns and their piers or walking along an empty beach with only the sound of gulls flying over head and waves breaking. I love the hustle and bustle of a summers day on the beach. The colours, sounds and smells of summer time with families arriving for the day or winter time when only the hardy dog walkers brave the elements. The UK has 56 piers dotted around the coast and Worthing Pier is the closest to me. It dates back to 1862 and was designed by Sir Robert Rawlinson. I have photographed it many times before however recently I wanted to try something different. I not only wanted to capture the look of the pier but I also wanted to record the sounds. Shooting the photography over a course of a day I then returned to record the audio using a handheld recorder. I'm always looking for new ways to present the stories that I photograph and I'm happy with the results. Inspired by my success I have further projects planned! You can watch the short video below and keep updated about my work by subscribing to my newsletter here. I hope you enjoy the video,  and just remember there's life happening all around, you just have to stop and look. Till next time, Scott the photographer.
