Ubud, the cultural gem of Bali, is a paradise for travel enthusiasts and photography lovers alike. As a seasoned traveller and professional photographer, I found myself drawn to this enchanting town, eager to capture its essence through my lens.

As you step into Ubud, the first thing that catches your eye – and your camera – is the mesmerizing dance of mopeds. These nimble two-wheeled vehicles are more than just a mode of transportation; they're the lifeblood of Ubud and, indeed, all of Indonesia. From busy executives to smiling families of four squeezed onto a single seat, mopeds paint a vivid picture of daily life in this bustling town.
For a travel photographer, these mopeds offer endless opportunities to capture the spirit of Ubud. The way riders gracefully weave through narrow alleyways and bustling markets is nothing short of a well-choreographed ballet. Each moped tells a unique story – a family's journey, a worker's commute, or a vendor's mobile shop – making them the perfect subject for a compelling photo essay, which I'll return to and build upon whenever I can.

Tips for Travel Photography in Ubud
Rise early: The soft morning light in Ubud is perfect for capturing the town as it wakes up. In the morning, take photos. In the afternoon, edit.
Immerse yourself: If you're an experienced rider, rent a moped (you'll need an international driver's licence and insurance) and explore the outskirts of town for unique photo opportunities.
Respect local customs: Always ask for permission before photographing people, especially in temples.
Play with perspective: Use the unique architecture and landscapes of Ubud to create interesting compositions.
Capture the details: From intricate offerings to colourful market stalls, Ubud is full of beautiful details waiting to be photographed.
