The wonderful City of Brighton was my recent destination to shoot a engagement photography assignment for Claire and Jeremy. The couple live in Brighton and had asked me to photograph their forthcoming Pirate Themed wedding in the City. However before getting dressed up as Pirates I wanted to create some pre wedding photos of the couple in the City they love, Brighton.
Sun, Sea and a Carousel. Lets Get Some Engagement Photographs!
The day of the shoot I met up with Claire and Jeremy and over a coffee discussed the type of photographs they required. Getting to know a couple is so important to me. As we chatted I asked about the type of photographs they liked and shared some of my ideas. I soon learnt the couple are very fun and enjoy a laugh. Life is for living after all! They both preferred natural photographs, liked my modern style but wanted to avoid anything too soppy. No problem. So with a plan hatched and my head full of photo ideas we set off to the seafront. The couple wanted to avoid the typical cliche photo in front of the Brighton Pier, so I suggested we started at the fishing museum. My approach when working is relaxed. During a shoot we walk and talk. I like to keep things informal. As we chat I'm always looking around for good locations to stop at and create some photographs in. We stop at the Carousel, then onto the arches on Madeira Drive. I spot a lovely textured wall ideal as a backdrop, ask the couple to dance along the street and then (remembering their love of coffee) finish the photography shoot at their favorite coffee shop.
Soon a couple of hours had passed and I had created a great set of photographs that recorded their engagement in style. A set of photographs that were personal to the couple and included the locations and places they liked, in the city they lived.
And the biggest thrill for me was finding out that Claire & Jeremy loved the photographs so much that they displayed them at her wedding. I hope you enjoy looking through the photographs. Come back soon to see their Pirate Themed wedding photographs. Can't wait to show you.
