VE Day 70th Anniversary - Residents In Southsea Portsmouth Recreate A VE Day Street Party To Remember

The 8th of May 2015 marked the 70th Anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) and the end of the second world war in Europe. Many of the services and events were held in London, however local communities were also encouraged to take part. Remembering the old black and white photographs taken at the time I wanted to document a community street party for myself and so I headed along the coast to Portsmouth in Hampshire to see if I could find one.

Saltdean Lido A Derelict Art Deco 1930's Lido in East Sussex

Built in the late 1930's, Saltdean Lido looks rather unloved and sorry for it's self as you catch a glimpse of it whilst traveling along the A259 coast road in East Sussex, UK. This derelict art deco Lido has been closed for several years with only local seagulls able to enjoy the open air swimming pool. Once a must go to place for holiday makers during the golden age of the 1930's over 160 Lido's where built across the UK.

Ferry Night Crossing

Late winter 2014 and after a photography shoot on the Isle Of Wight I grabbed my cameras and went top side of the Wightlink Ferry as it left the small village of Fishbourne. The light was fading fast and with night drawing in the other passengers soon settled down inside the large cabin with their warm cappuccinos. They must have thought me mad as I explored the deck of the ship stopping every now and again to take my photos

Wassailing at Tarring Village in West Sussex

Banging and chanting filled the air on the Eve of the Twelfth Night (5th of January) in the ancient village of Tarring in West Sussex, UK. Father Christmas, A Gorilla Called Emmie - It's Beginning To Look A lot Like Christmas!

Is it Christmas already? What happened to the last year? Where did it go? Is that Father Christmas with a Gorilla? Don't panic Mr Mannering!  All will become clear soon enough. A few years ago whilst I was working for a press agency in Kent I was sent on a very important Christmas photo assignment to photograph Father Christmas delivering presents to some Gorillas at a local wild animal park. As Santa handed out the presents and I took my photographs I wondered to myself what does a Gorilla really want for Christmas…….?

Everyone Has A Story To Tell Even A Dog

I Love Photography! It's official, there you go. I've said it. I love a photo that tells a story, a photo that makes you think or enables you to experience something new. I'm always taking photos, I guess I'm a little obsessive. Even if I don't have my camera with me I'm using my iPhone. But it's not just about taking the photo that I enjoy. It's about meeting new people, talking, learning and discovering new things. I watch and listen. I talk and ask questions trying to find the story!
